598 Grand Caribe Causeway · Coronado
CA
This is a paddle, in search of wildlife. The wildlife here, will mostly be birds. Many kinds of birds can be seen here, and maybe we’ll even see Floyd, the wild pink flamingo. And if we’re really lucky, there’s a chance we might even see one of the elusive green sea turtles that hang out in these parts. The water here, is relatively shallow with marked channels for the larger boats going to and from the marinas. Much of this area is surrounded by wildlife preserve.
Meeting time is about 8:30 AM so that we can be underway about 9:00.
We’ll launch next to what appears to be a bridge on the Grand Caribe Causeway, just before the shoreline park. This is a nice spot because it is sheltered from the wind and chop that is often experienced in this part of the bay. The length of this paddle is estimated to be between 7 and 8 miles.
There aren’t many businesses in the area, so if you have time afterward, let’s do a picnic lunch.
