The San Diego Kayak Club (SDKC) is a loosely formed group who love paddling and want to share our experience with paddlers at every level of ability. Our primary purpose is to communicate paddling opportunities to one another via email lists and our club calendar. We hold regular, or irregular, meetings to share: educational info, opportunities to volunteer within the paddling community and to plan local coastal paddle/skill sessions, and adventure trips. Primarily, we’re sea kayakers, but many of us have branched out to kayak surfing, standup boards, whitewater paddling and there’s a local kayak polo group.
We foster safety in kayaking and encourage the use of proper gear, good judgment, rescue knowledge and adherence to safety regulations.
Whether intended or not, we’ve made lifelong friendships that extend on and off the water. Come enjoy our company!

I’m new to kayaking. I’ve had several lessons and practice paddling on Mission Bay. I’d like to start paddling out of the bay along the coast with others.. Any suggestions?
Hi Joel,
If you can make the Wed. Morning paddles at 7am that would be a good place to start. They usually go out the channel and over by OB pier- not a long paddle, but it will get you outside. If you think you are up for a 8-10 mile paddle, we are doing LJ to Torrey pines on May 5th.

Anyone interested in joining a regular surf kayak group at La Jolla shores? I’m a novice, and would be grateful to learn from/work with any skill level.
I have done a little surf kayaking in a short boat (Necky Jive) and enjoy La Jolla Shores, but haven’t been there in a long time…it seems. Do you have a short white water boat, a sea kayak or a (real!) surf kayak?
Are you available mid-week?
Hi Debra – I could probably be available mid week. Wednesday evening? I have a old-school WaveMaster Comp that manages to get the job done, despite me. I went out today North of SIO. Great short-fat surf – but a bit crowded.
Matt,
I was thinking early mornings. I live in SJC about an hour north and evenings, there is just too much traffic.

Looking for kayaking on Thursdays and Fridays. I do the Thursday night paddles out of Aqua Adventures most nights. But I’d like to kayak more this year and I’m just getting tired of paddling by myself.
I usually put in in Mission Bay, or Southbay early, would like to go out sea eventually but need to go out with experienced people. I only know paddle float rescue at this point.
In a month or so I will be moving to the Coronado area and would like to find some people to go surf kayaking with. I’ve never done it before but I have some experience with white water and sea kayaking. I’d really like to have some people to go with for safety reasons and so I can learn. If you’re interested please let me know and hopefully we can get together! Even if you’re more into river or sea kayaking, I’d never turn down an opportunity to paddle! Thanks.
