Team River Runner, an organization of kayakers that teams up with therapists from Naval Medical Center, gives wounded active duty and veteran soldiers and sailors a chance to take on the sport of surf kayaking twice a month at the beach in Del Mar. Many of the participants learn the basics of paddling, boat handling and rolling in the pool at the Balboa medical campus before heading out into the surf.
