Eleven of us ventured out yesterday from Aqua Adventures on a 13 mile paddle, ending at Shelter Island. The 101 temperature at noon did not dampen the warm feelings, as we sang happy birthday to Jen (second from last photo). All in all, it was a cool memory for her, as she paddled past the lighthouse.

The Festival of Sail returns to the North Embarcadero in downtown San Diego, starting Aug. 30 with the parade of tall ships on San Diego Bay, then continuing through Sept. 3. More than 20 tall ships and other vessels from around the world will dock in San Diego for boarding and perusing by visitors, with more than 225,000 people expected to attend an event that includes ample information on San Diego’s maritime history.
